THIS RIVER
B-./.E./.G./.B-./. ch.GE-]x2DB-]x2
I was born in a steel town
by the river where the rapids run
with the smokestacks burning thru the day
I was eighteen when i moved out,
I followed the river south
to play my music in the Big City
this world keeps on turning
this river keeps on rolling by
theres a bridge we can cross over
if we want to get to the other side
Too many years out on the road
one night stands and living alone
I loved to drink and the drink loved me
i was going off the deep end
I met my angel in 93
and i know that she saved me
Chorus
i could of been a steel man,
playing music in a weekend band,
could have raised a great big family
some follow the river south,
others stay and tough it out
we all have to follow ours dreams

TURN AND WALK AWAY
Vr. G D/F# |E-D| CG/B |D| x2
Br. E- | B7/D# | G7/D|A/C#| C | G/B|A-| D |
Twisting and turning you walk away
we can’t talk anymore
words have lost there meaning bent out of shape
emotional decor
all the promises that we have made
scatted on the ground
we make our grand escape
but were not fooling anyone
small solo /
tossing and turning we wake from our dreams
leave them tangled on the floor
unsure of what happened that empty feeling
it leaves us wanting more
something has got change to clear the clouds away there must be a grain some truth
hiding in this maze
big solo
slipping and sliding we head down the road
life keeps getting in the way
it hard to stand on our own two feet
the war of words is running deep
nothing that’s worth saying can save the day the love we had is fading turn and walk away

HOLDING ON TO A MEMORY
CG/B |A-/G| FG | C |x2 Fma7 C ]x4Fma7E7
Im holding on to a memory and i can’t let it go
A midnite flight over the ocean deep
to the lands of long ago
1 from the cobbled streets of temple bar
to galway on the coast
mu history was always rooted here
generations long ago
the great migration scattered us
but now were come home
we danced the night away in bally grande
carved our names in the stone
2 in a green cafe in amsterdam
looking at a menu on the wall it awakened my flower child who wanted to try it all
later looking up at the stars swirling in a Vincent van go sky we danced the night on the strand
till the morning was neigh
3 took the red train to paris always wanted to go there climbed the hill at moulin rouge
see the artists in the square
down below the city spreads out in a great big deja vu we danced the last tango together
entangled in the blues

BEEP BOP

Beep Bop
Beep Bop city bop living in a parking lot, so low
newspapers on the ground
let you know whats going down, holes
i tried to get off of these dirty streets, move back home
but i wound up i wound up in a hole on my own
beep bop city bop living in a parking lot
hot top beauty box cruising through the summer hot soul
sweet willies at the wheel and he knows how to make you feel oh
hes got a horn that goes beep beep
hes got a girl that goes bleep bleep
he says get out of my way boy, get back home
beep bop city bop living in a parking lot
and every morning every night
we chase our dreams in the neon light, sold out
its to much for the touch you got to get rich to get enough
and then you just get old
reaching in and reachin out its all running out
lay your money down
sometimes you'd want to shout, dont know what its all about
its all running around
and your trying to keep your feet up on the ground
i know i dont want it to get me down
beep bop city bop living in a parking lot

COULD OF BEEN CALIFORNIA
Vr.Dx8 Gx4Dx4 Ch.[A | E-| E-D/F#G / ] x2 A
there was seven islands for 20 years or so
the sounds of trains at night
and Beatles rubber soul
To the smell of Sea air my childhood blew by
up on the north shore where the weather was wild
Daddy was a railwayman trying to make a better life he got an offer from the union Pacific Line
west to California or north to the sault
one or other he had to choose
A /// |E-///|E-D/F#G/ |x2A
Could of been California, seasons in the sun
it would have turned out differently if we had of come Could have been California but Im freezing cold back in ontario
goodbye Quebec city goodbye Montreal
we were overloaded with everything we owned The lazy days of summer just slid on by camped on the shores of lake superior
tried my hand at steelwork railway working too but it took its tole knocked the fun out of you
I had to travel and see the world
I was a young man with a dream to forfil

BLUE LIKE THE MOON
03:51
|
|||
Blue Like The Moon
the lonely streets go by, the ancient tears they cried
i'll be back tomorrow
the same old lovers songs, heartache it wont last long
i'll be back tomorrow
everybody goes on trips , running running
running round chase the sun
from those cold places where lovers go
when there's nothing to light the fire
chorus:
I'm certain of one thing i am blue like the moon
just dreaming of one thing i will see you soon
you only live but one life on a course of no return
a shooting star shinning bright and you got to let it burn
chorus
if i could get you back i'd tell you what id do
if i had just one wish i'd hope it would come true
as these lonely streets go by i know im missing you
chorus

DON CHARBONNEAU’S CANOE
04:03
|
|||
DON CHARBONNEAUS CANOE
I'm sitting on this river, in Don Charbonneau's canoe
I'm just waiting for the walleye he promised me a few
weve been sitting here since morning
since the dawn cracked his gold eye
the blues are in the icebox
and it bites right to the bone
yes Im feeding all the black flys
in mother natures zoo
Oh but i love this big sky
in the land, in the land of Gitchi gumi
well 20 years ago it would of been different ,
another lost weekend,
but things have changed since then
i will never go back again.
I'm staying down the highway, at the beaver motel
i saw an ad about a fishing trip and i thought
what the hell
chorus
Don said I'll pick you up at 5AM ,
you better wear a jacket too
so we headed up the magpie river
in the nights ending gloom
there's don now on the shoreline
he's frying up some fish
he's got a lot of great stories
and he sings a song or two

Cross-country
I got a beat up old Chevy that I drive around
And I been everywhere from town to town
She’s kind of rusty but she rides like a dream
From coast to coast and in between
Up and down the streets of your town
She gets me back safe and sound
I went to Nashville the city of song
I met some folks and I moved along
Over to Hollywood to visit the stars
To New Orleans for the mardi-gras
New York to Memphis, marina Del ray
Turn around and come back again
Put on your seat belts, put on your shades,
Head out on the highway
Turn up the music and hold on tight
Were gonna drive right through the night
Cross country x4
My little Chevy you know she’s all right
She gets me there and back again
Cross-country
Got a polar bear sticker sticking on the back of very fine vacation I took a long while back
I loaded up the car with a mountain of dreams
Had to get off of these city streets
Two thousand miles to the end of the road
North to Alaska and back again
CHORUS

|

Sailing Away
theres a new moon rising
with memories of better days
long cold fingers on the ground
as the sunset slips away
septembers cold when your on your own
as the summer fades to grey
the leaves on the trees turn to gold
and the wind sweeps it all away
you went sailing with my heart
how the cold wind blows
through the dreams of yesterday
when will you come back again
as the days go by you know i'll cry
cry about yesterday
when love was young and we were one
untill time took it all away
theres nothing between us,
just the wind and the waves

GOOD-BYE TOKYO

Good –Bye Tokyo
A million miles to the other side
And were just rocking on the changing tide
Hello midnight good bye my love
Till the deepest ocean
Gives up our love
Good –bye Tokyo
Riding the fair wind or the raging sea
I hope I find a change in you or me
Storm clouds are raging and I know
I’ll be thinking of you on a distant shore
Good –bye Tokyo
And when the day is through
And you turn out your light
I’m never far behind
In the darkened skys
Good –bye Tokyo

NOTHING LASTS FOREVER

|

NOTHING LASTS FOREVER
Here I am staring out the window
But I can’t see you anymore
Outside the sun is shining
But black is back in my heart once more
Here I am walking down the hallway
Empty rooms where you don’t live no more
The telephone is ringing louder
I know its not you, you don’t call no more
Who says that love will last forever?
Nothing lasts for ever anymore
You said we’d always be together
And then you walked out the door
We’ll love is sweet in the beginning
Everything just feels for sure
You dream the dream of love becoming
And then you fall back into the real world

ALL THE WAY BACK HOME
04:07
|
|||
ALL THE WAY BACK HOME
Mercy stands beneath the trees a suitcase inn her hand
Shadows waving like a flag into the promised land
Up and down the highway she searches for a sign
Are you going my way im travelling light
All the way back home
Jack drives a Cadillac a briefcase in the back
Filled with his stocks and bonds
You know he’s got the Knack
Everything he needs to know he finds out on the go
A thousand miles an hour on his cellular phone
All the way back home
She sees him coming for miles away like a gypsy caravan
Sunshine bouncing off like stars as she raises her hand
Jack cant believe his luck he’ll be taking her for a ride
Stop at the closest town and stay the night
All the way back home
See the line drifting by the engines open wide
Heading down the highway loving overnight
The motel rhythm melts into a sigh
O I love you my my won’t you be mine
Far way in another town many years gone by
Jacks working 9-5 cheating on the side
Mercy has been finding out drinking every night
Thinking of running away again into another life
All the way back home
